Longtime Broadway veteran Gregory Jbara, who currently stars as Dad in the highly anticipated West End transfer of musical Billy Elliot, will debut an exclusive video journal on Broadway.com beginning October 14. The show, now in previews at the Imperial Theatre, opens November 13.
The ongoing journal, titled Working Class Hero: Backstage with Billy’s Dad and hosted by Jbara, will provide viewers with backstage access and special interviews with cast members, all while chronicling behind the scenes action at a big-time Broadway musical from previews to opening and beyond.
A regular on stage and screen, Jbara was last seen on Broadway in the acclaimed Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Additional Broadway credits include Chicago, Victor/Victoria, Damn Yankees, Born Yesterday and Serious Money. Off-Broadway includes Privates on Parade, Serious Money and Have I Got A Girl For You! His numerous TV and film credits include In & Out, The Drew Carey Show, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The West Wing, Grounded for Life and Epic Movie.
Set in an English Northeastern mining town during the struggles of a mining strike, Billy Elliot tells the story of Billy, a working-class boy who abandons boxing to follow dreams of becoming a ballet dancer. Jbara plays Billy's blue-collar father, a widower working to support his family during desperate times while trying to understanding his son’s extraordinary gift.
